Huayu Xu is a PhD candidate in the Department of Economics at the University of Michigan. His research interests are in development economics, political economy, and labor economics. His primary research work combines microdata and policy experiments to understand the importance of formal and informal institutions in shaping economic development. His second line of research involves randomized controlled trials in field settings, with a focus on the well-being of disadvantaged populations.
