Laurel Beth Wheeler

Laurel Wheeler is a PhD candidate in the Department of Economics at Duke University. She holds an MA in economics from Duke, an MSc in economics for development from the University of Oxford, and a BA in political science from the University of Florida.

Her research lies at the intersection of labor and development economics, addressing poverty and inequality in the United States and in low-income countries.

This work will shed light on how much employers value cognitive (e.g. IQ) and non-cognitive (e.g. motivation, perseverance etc.) skills and the extent to which these skills are predictive of future productivity.
