PEDL Conference 2016

On 14th and 15th March 2016, PEDL hosted its third conference on “Private Sector Development” in London. The event brought together 41 PEDL researchers from over a dozen countries to discuss their research on firms and markets in LICs.

Over the course of two days, 27 ERG and MRG projects were presented and discussed. The presentations were a mix of advanced and preliminary research projects, some of which were being presented for the very first time.

Topics were very diverse and covering constraints for both small and large firms, and the efficiency of markets. Some research questions explored this year include:

·         What are determinants of informality and formality?

·         How to quantify agglomeration externalities and productivity spillovers?

·         How do norms of fairness and wage heterogeneity affect workers’ motivation?

·         What are the barriers to the expansion of small firms?
