Sylvain Chassang

Princeton University

Sylvain Chassang is a Professor of Economics at Princeton University. His research, at the intersection of game theory and data, has recently focused on the transmission of sensitive information in organisations. He received his Ph.D. in Economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and was a Sloan Foundation Research Fellow from 2011 to 2013. Sylvain has published in leading economic journals, including the American Economic Review, Econometrica, the Quarterly Journal of Economics, the Journal of Political Economy, and the Review of Economic Studies. He currently serves as a co-editor of the American Economic Review.

This study tested different methods of surveying employees about workplace harassment and found that secure survey designs that ensure plausible deniability of responses to sensitive questions can help uncover harassment that would otherwise go unreported.

We evaluate secure survey methods designed for the ongoing monitoring of harassment in organizations. We use the resulting data to answer policy relevant questions about the nature of harassment: How prevalent is it?
