This project assesses medium-term economic impacts of improved electricity reliability by leveraging persistent discontinuities in electricity reliability across nearby areas in Kenya that are serviced by different feeder lines.

This project is a randomised controlled trial designed to test whether there are market failures in the spatial distribution of private-market transit in low-income cities and if they can be corrected using temporary route creation subsidies. The project also tests whether there are different groups under-served by existing urban transit alignment.

In this project, the research team conducts surveys of approximately 2,200 HR managers at garment factories in Gazipur, Savar, and Narayanganj, the three major garments-producing clusters around peri-urban Dhaka, to create a novel set of stylized facts about vacancies and hiring practices across firms and within firms over time.
