Rachel Heath

Rachel Heath is an Associate Professor in the Department of Economics at the University of Washington. Her research interests are in development and labour economics, and in particular, increased labour market opportunities for women in developing countries. Rachel studies how these new job opportunities are changing women's lives, the factors that influence women's decisions to join the labour force, and how firms make hiring decisions. She holds a PhD from Yale University.

This study tested different methods of surveying employees about workplace harassment and found that secure survey designs that ensure plausible deniability of responses to sensitive questions can help uncover harassment that would otherwise go unreported.

We evaluate secure survey methods designed for the ongoing monitoring of harassment in organizations. We use the resulting data to answer policy relevant questions about the nature of harassment: How prevalent is it?

In many experimental contexts, whether and how network interactions impact outcomes of both treated and untreated individuals are key concerns. Networks data is often assumed to perfectly represent the set of individuals who might be affected by these interactions.
